Robbers Attack Diete Koki Memorial Hospital In Bayelsa; Rob Patients, Doctors

  Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers raided Diete Koki Memorial Hospital in Bayelsa and carted away cash and valuables belonging to patients and doctors on duty.   It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the hospital located along Opolo Road in Yenagoa, the state capital, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 31.   Catholic Prayers The suspected robbers were alleged to have broken into the hospital from the fence behind. One of the Doctors on duty, Dr Okeleghel Awudumapu, told journalists that the robbery gang attacked while he was returning from his call room. Dr Awudumapu said his belongings and that of patients from the labour ward and that of their family members were all carted away. The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Emmanuel Fetepigi, described the act as barbaric. 12 Perish, Six Injured In Auto Crash Along Kaduna-Abuja Road

  Twelve persons have died in a fatal motor accident in Nasarawa Doka, along the Kaduna-Abuja road in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Monday, August 30.   The State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 30, said the crash involving a Toyoto Hiace bus was caused by brake failure. "Security agencies have reported to the Kaduna State Government that 12 persons have died and six others are injured following a ghastly road traffic crash which occurred on Monday afternoon in Nasarawa Doka, along the Kaduna-Abuja road in Kachia LGA," he stated. "The crash involved a lone Toyota Hiace bus conveying 18 passengers from Zaria to Abuja. The cause of the crash has been identified as a brake failure following a tyre explosion. COVID-19 Vaccination: Edo Civil Servants Get 7-day Ultimatum

  The Edo government has given civil servants in the state’s ministry of health a seven-day ultimatum to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. According to a memo issued on Monday by Fredrick Irabor, permanent secretary of the ministry, any staff member who fails to receive the vaccine within the period would not be allowed into office. “I am directed to refer to the above subject and to notify all staff (members) of the ministry of health to get vaccinated against the deadly COVID-19 within the week,”  the memo stated. “I am further directed to inform you of all that from September 6, any staff (member) who has not taken the COVID-19 vaccine will not be allowed into the office premises.” Months before the current development, Andrew Obi, the Edo COVID-19 incident manager, had said 269 health workers in the state have contracted the coronavirus. 400 Level UNILORIN Student Commits Suicide After Two Failed Attempts

  A 26-year-old student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has reportedly committed suicide. Elijah Jude Anuoluwapo is said to have consumed illicit drug substances. According to reports, the 400 Level student of English Language died on Thursday morning, August 26, at the hospital where he was rushed to by his colleagues for medical attention. This is said to be his third attempt at committing suicide. Unfortunately, he succeeded this time. Friends said his reason for attempting suicide multiple times was over alleged rejection by members of his immediate family after the death of his mother. "His father had abandoned his mother since she was carrying Jude’s pregnancy which later led to his mother’s death out of depression," a friend of the deceased told Tribune. Jude's maternal grandmother who raised him is said to have died of cancer complications last year, leaving him with no one willing to identify as his family. This led him to become depressed.   Doctors, under the aegis of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), have unanimously decided to continue their strike which began on August 2. The association said Federal Government’s alleged insincerity in addressing the demands of its members, coupled with its  ex parte  injunctions and the misinterpretation of the ruling of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), are among the reasons it continued the strike. NARD’s National Executive Council (NEC), which met on August 25 with over 60 of its members, noted that over 140 days after it signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the government, nothing had been done to meet the demands. Family Of 7 Die After Eating Suya In Abia Community (PHOTOS)

  No fewer than seven persons have been confirmed dead after eating the popular barbecue known as suya with juice in Umueze Umuakanu Umuahia North LGA, Abia State, ABN TV reports. Father of the house Mr. Jessey was said to have bought the suya from where all the family members, including extended family who came for holidays ate. ABN TV gathered that only the Wife Mrs Ogba Jessey, and his son survived. She is currently receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia. Our correspondent gathered that she is not aware that other members of the family have passed on. They were said to have started throwing up after eating the suya suspected to have been poisoned. The deceased have been deposited in the morgue while the surviving victims are currently receiving treatment.
