Doctors, under the aegis of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), have unanimously decided to continue their strike which began on August 2. The association said Federal Government’s alleged insincerity in addressing the demands of its members, coupled with its ex parte injunctions and the misinterpretation of the ruling of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), are among the reasons it continued the strike. NARD’s National Executive Council (NEC), which met on August 25 with over 60 of its members, noted that over 140 days after it signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the government, nothing had been done to meet the demands. A 26-year-old student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has reportedly committed suicide. Elijah Jude Anuoluwapo is said to have consumed illicit drug substances. According to reports, the 400 Level student of English Language died on Thursday morning, August 26, at the hospital where he was rushed to by his colleagues for medical attention. This is said to be his third attempt at committing suicide. Unfortunately, he succeeded this time. Friends said his reason for attempting suicide multiple times was over alleged rejection by members of his immediate family after the death of his mother. "His father had abandoned his mother since she was carrying Jude’s pregnancy which later led to his mother’s death out of depression," a friend of the deceased told Tribune. Senator Samuel Anyanwu, on Sunday, called on the Igbo leaders not to turn their back on the arrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Anyanwu made this appeal on Sunday in Owerri, while speaking to newsmen on the arrest and detention of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
